The apartments by the Serra d'Irta we recommend are the Marcomar Apartments, on the Marcolina estate in Alcossebre, north of town. They sit at the foot of the hills, at the entrance to the natural park, and 1.3 km from Las Fuentes beach and the marina.
Why Marcomar for a nature break
- The hills on your doorstep. You're at the entrance to the natural park, a short trip from the Ribamar coastal track and Cala Blanca, where route 2, the red route and the Ruta del Cranc mountain bike route begin.
- Peace and quiet. Marcolina is a residential estate, away from the noise of the centre, with the hills behind and the sea in front.
- Views. Depending on the apartment, the terraces look out to sea or towards the hills.
- A pool for after the walk. The building has an adult pool and a children's pool, usually open from Easter to mid-November (confirm when you book).
- Paid covered parking, handy if you're travelling with bikes on the car.

An apartment lets you set your own timetable: an early breakfast before a long walk or coming back mid-afternoon without worrying about dining-room hours. For a couple, the one-bedroom apartment is enough; if several couples are coming to walk together, the three-bedroom apartment is the cheapest option per person.

A three-day plan from Marcomar
- Day 1, the southern coast. The red route from the lighthouse to Cala Cubanita (8.5 km circular, low difficulty) and a swim at Cala Mundina on the way back.
- Day 2, by bike. The Ruta del Cranc along the coastal track to Torre Badum and Cala del Volante (13.2 km to Cala de l'Arjub; back the same way).
- Day 3, inland. A morning climb to the Santa Llúcia i Sant Benet hermitage (1.3 km) and a visit to Xivert Castle in the afternoon.

What to know before you book
- Marcomar isn't on the seafront: the nearest town beach, Las Fuentes, is 1.3 km away. That's an advantage if what you're after is the hills and tranquillity.
- Casa Azahar does not allow pets in its apartments.
